LOUD Talk

Dave Krovich gives a talk on LOUD.

Lets face it, if you're reading this, you're probably at the talk right now!

Here's a link to the flyer you've seen all across campus!

Packaging 101 session this Tursday!

FSG will be holding a hands-on session demonstrating the basics of making software packages for Debian or Ubuntu based systems. At the end of the demonstration you'll be able to make a package that could configure your computer just the way you like it by manually installing only one package.

Check out the Wiki Page to get yourself ready.

P.S. - There's an awesome flyer attached to this post!

Icky Wicky!

Forgot to mention, check out the Wiki to see projects you can get involved with, or start your own idea and see if people are on board with you. We're looking for every ones ideas for holding Open Source Fest!

September 30th meeting

Well first off thanks to all of our new and past FSG members. We had quite a attendance this time around! All of this contributed to great meeting (with cookies). Discussion went through progressively; with us trying to figure out what were going to do for Mountaineer week. (If you have any good ideas for this one be sure to put them on the wiki. One of the things I personally thought was exciting and I hope you agree was the idea of finding and making videos on how to do install and use allot of different software; so that we can present it at OS-fest. Which is sure to be a awesome event. Also another plus will be the creation of our Facebook group which has been created ! (Kudos to JY for doing on this) In other news well be speaking with the Friends of Literacy on how we can aid them with our Open Source skills, not to mention we may be having Stallmen speaking in the spring (this is not concrete). But once agian thanks everyone and hope to see you all at the next meeting!

23 September Table in MountainLair

Many showed interested in the group today during our 11-4 tabling session in the student union. Caleb kicked ass at convincing people that it was in their best interest to join FSG. Justin's very awesome banner was a big hit, too. Ezra's assistance, as well, helped to make the table a success.
Hopefully a bunch of new people will come to the next meeting. One dude said he'd bring a few friends.
Attached is a crappy picture of the event.

More website updates

To summarize: there is now a mac free and open source software section, as well as a description of how to add the LOUD repositories to your Debian/Ubuntu distribution.

If you check out the left side of the page you'll notice a new link above the Free Windows Apps CD link. A free mac apps website! The great people at FreeSMUG maintain a list of Free and Open Source Mac applications.

They also have assembled a CD of the most commonly used Mac OS software. We will be making copies of this CD available as much as resources permit.

The instructional page called "Using LOUD Repositories" gives a brief description of how to enable access to LOUD repositories and get a listing of packages provided through it.

FSG In the Media

I've put up a new section on the site called "FSG In the Media". You will be able to find any media hits we get archived there.

We've got one hit so far, here it is copied from the Media Section:

Stacey Herron, Correspondent of the WVU Daily Athenaeum Student News Paper, wrote an article introducing the campus to the WVU Free Software Group. Read all it here.

Logos

Justin Schmitt was kind enough to present this batch of logos at the meeting tonight. Lets get some feedback and get a brand for the club. Commenting is enabled for this post so you all can leave feedback here, e-mail us, or give your opinions at the next meeting. We'll call these "logo 1", "logo 2", and "logo 3", respectively.

We have got a speaker?

Nothing is official yet, but the FSG may have booked its first speaker, and a major one at that. We're aiming to have him come around March to the Festival of Ideas that WVU holds. I won't say who directly since it's all up in the air still, but there's a major hint dropped in this post. Check this page soon since we'll be updating it as information comes in.

Welcome

Hello!

This is our new website. As you can see it's powered by drupal!

More stuff coming soon, I promise :)
